Lasik
Laser In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is one of the most effective and innovative vision care treatments available. Although LASIK has been around in some form since the 1960′s, the procedure has been improved decade by decade and has emerged as one of the most popular methods of helping patients establish clearer vision with less reliance on eyeglasses or contact lenses. Current incarnations of LASIK are designed to utilize both conventional treatment and laser surgery to correct vision affected by nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. We provide South Florida with an elevated standard of care matched with cutting edge technology. With results like 98% of patients having 20/20 vision or better, choosing us for your procedure would be the correct choice.
The LASIK Procedure
In performing LASIK, Our surgeons first use a precise Intralase Femtosecond Laser to make a partial cut through 1/5 to 1/3 of the front surface of the cornea, creating a flap of clear tissue on the central part of the eye.
The patient is then positioned under the excimer laser which has been programmed by our surgeons to vaporize away some of the internal corneal tissue under the flap. Central tissue is removed to reduce curvature or peripheral tissue is removed to increase curvature. This is how nearsightedness and farsightedness is eliminated. Astigmatism can be corrected by removing selected tissue to even out the curvature of the cornea.
The entire LASIK procedure typically takes only about 15 minutes, but a comprehensive examination and consultation are necessary before surgery. The eye being treated will be anesthetized with drops and the patient will be awake and comfortable throughout the procedure. Although night protection and eye drops will be necessary for a few days after LASIK surgery, vision should be improved as early as the day after surgery.
